Medical examiner identifies 2 killed in small plane crash in Simi Valley

The Ventura County Medical Examiner's Office identified the victims of a small plane crash in Simi Valley as 69-year-old Paul Berkovitz, his 36-year-old son, Matthew Berkovitz, and Paul's dog, Brody. The Berkovitz family shared that Paul was a devoted father, husband, and pilot, while Matt shared his father's love for aviation. The cause of their deaths was determined to be multiple blunt force injuries due to an accident. The plane, a Van RV-10, had left from William J. Fox Airfield and was heading to Camarillo Airport when it crashed into two homes. One home was red-tagged, and the other was yellow-tagged, with both sustaining fire and structural damage. Thankfully, the residents inside were safely evacuated. An investigation by the FAA and NTSB is ongoing, with a preliminary report expected in 30 days and a full report within two years. Witnesses reported seeing the aircraft circling the area before crashing.
