McLaren drivers collide in US GP sprint race kickoff.
The sprint race at the 2025 United States Grand Prix kicked off with intense excitement as there was immediate tension with both McLaren drivers being involved in a collision at the very first corner of the race. Max Verstappen, who began in pole position, had a solid start defending his position into Turn 1. However, as the cars bunched up under braking, Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris made contact at the turn apex following Sauber's Nico Hulkenberg's impact on the championship leader. During the broadcast on Sky Sports F1, Martin Brundle noted the first corner drama where Piastri tried to move under Norris but ended up on two wheels after making contact with Hulkenberg. McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown promptly addressed the situation, absolving his drivers of any blame and criticizing the incident on the track. Unfortunately, both McLaren drivers and Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso, who was also involved in the mishap at Turn 1, had to retire from the race as the yellow flags were waved while the track marshals cleaned up the debris. The focus now shifts to ensuring the cars are repaired and prepared for tomorrow's race as there are only four hours until qualifying begins for the grand prix.
