Mayor from West Georgia faces retrial for crash that resulted in the deaths of teenage girls

The process of selecting a jury has commenced for the retrial of Buchanan Mayor A.J. Scott, who is facing charges of vehicular homicide in connection with a tragic crash in 2015 that resulted in the deaths of two teenagers. Prosecutors claim that at the time of the incident, Scott, who was a Georgia State Trooper, was driving at high speeds without activating his emergency lights and sirens and was not responding to a call. The crash took the lives of Kylie Lindsey and Isabella Chinchilla, aged 17 and 16 respectively. Subsequently, Scott was dismissed from the State Patrol and charges were brought against him. Following a mistrial in 2019 due to allegations of withheld evidence, the Supreme Court of Georgia has ruled that Scott can be retried. The victim's mothers have been advocating for justice in this case and for Scott's removal from public office. The retrial jury selection began today and is expected to last a few days. If found guilty on all counts, Scott could potentially face a prison sentence of up to 30 years.
