MAX Train derailed in Downtown Portland after crash involving car
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A MAX Train has been derailed in Downtown Portland after a crash involving a car on Sunday night, authorities said. Portland Fire and Rescue said they responded to reports of the collision around 8:30 p.m. near Southwest 11th Avenue and Southwest Morrison Street. A TriMet service alert at 8:19 p.m. noted that a collision between a train and a car occurred at Galleria/SW 10th Ave. When firefighters arrived, they found the involved vehicle, with the driver out of the car, walking around. There were no injuries, but the rear car of the MAX train was derailed. PF&R said that while firefighters left the scene after less than 30 minutes, TriMet crews were on the way to put the MAX train back on its tracks. A spokesperson for TriMet confirmed the collision resulted in the rear of the MAX train being derailed, with delays expected and disruptions to the MAX Blue and Red lines. Shuttle buses would be provided near Galleria/SW 10th Ave. for service between Goose Hollow/SW Jefferson St and Rose Quarter Transit Center. "We will have crews working through the night to complete repairs to restore service before morning. Riders should check trimet.org/alerts before heading out, for the very latest service information," said Tia York, a TriMet spokesperson. As of 9:30 p.m., when KOIN 6 News crews arrived at the location, the train was still off its track, but a TriMet maintenance truck was at the scene.
