Mass. Pike in Palmer shut down due to crash
PALMER, Mass. (WWLP) - A serious crash in Palmer shut down both directions of the Mass Pike near mile marker 64.5 in Palmer Thursday afternoon. The Massachusetts Department of Transportation, I-90 eastbound, has since reopened to traffic. However, the westbound side remains closed at the crash site as investigators continue to process the scene. Massachusetts State Police Spokesperson Tim McGuirk told 22News that first responders, including State Police, Fire, and EMS, were called to a crash on the westbound side. McGuirk said that preliminary information indicates a vehicle rear-ended a tractor-trailer, resulting in serious injuries. The Mass. Pike was shut down to allow a Life Flight helicopter to land on the highway to take the injured person to the hospital. 22News Reporters Nicole and Victoria Buddie captured video of a brush fire along the Mass. Pike in Palmer. As of Thursday evening, westbound traffic is still being detoured, while eastbound traffic is flowing normally after being rerouted earlier. 22News will update this story as soon as additional information is released.
