Maryland woman surrenders to Delaware authorities following deadly hit-and-run.

A woman from Maryland surrendered to authorities in Delaware following accusations of a deadly hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of a pedestrian. Dover Police reported that Aaliyah Graves, a 24-year-old resident of Chestertown, Maryland, faces charges including leaving the scene of the crash, vehicle theft, and driving without a valid license. The tragic event happened on Sunday, Aug. 31, when Graves reportedly struck a pedestrian, 62-year-old Barbara Benson, with her vehicle on North DuPont Highway. Benson succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Investigations revealed that the victim was hit by a Toyota traveling southbound in the right lane of North DuPont. Despite not stopping after the collision, Graves was identified by law enforcement, and her vehicle was eventually found in Worton, Maryland. Subsequently, an arrest warrant was issued for Graves. The day after, on Monday, Sept. 1, she voluntarily turned herself in and was taken to the Baylor Women's Correctional Institution. In a separate development, statistics from Delaware's Office of Highway Safety disclosed a notable decrease of around 26% in traffic fatalities over the past year. In 2024, there were 84 total traffic fatalities, with 16 involving pedestrians; by August 20 of 2025, 62 fatalities were recorded, with 17 of them being pedestrian-related incidents.
