Maryland community commemorates Khyree Jackson one year after fatal accident

The community gathered on Monday to commemorate the life and impact of NFL rookie Khyree Jackson, who tragically lost his life in a car accident last year in Prince George’s County. Friends, family, and supporters convened at Henry A. Wise Jr. High School’s football stadium, many wearing white, to celebrate what would have been Jackson’s 26th birthday. The day was filled with heartfelt moments of remembrance, acts of kindness, and motivation for the next generation of students and athletes. Following his passing in July 2024, Jackson, a Minnesota Vikings rookie, along with two close friends, his parents Ebbony and Raymond Jackson established the Khyree Jackson Foundation to ensure his legacy endures. “Today is Khyree’s actual birthday,” shared his mother, mentioning that giving back is a way to cope with grief. His father emphasized the importance of preserving his legacy and continuing the activities he was passionate about. The inaugural “KHY Day” event showcased music, giveaways, school supplies, football gear, and haircuts for going back to school. Additionally, the foundation granted two scholarships as part of its commitment to spreading hope and encouraging resilience. “It's about supporting that community, urging them not to lose hope, pursue their aspirations, and realize it’s never too late,” said Raymond Jackson. The Jackson family aspires for “KHY Day” to expand annually, transforming their hardship into an enduring form of community aid and empowerment.
