Marrero man dies in LaPlace-area crash following chase

LAPLACE, La. (WGNO) — A Marrero man is dead following a crash that reportedly occurred from fleeing deputies in St. John the Baptist Parish. According to the Louisiana State Police, around 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 24, troopers with Troop B began investigating the crash, which occurred on US 51 north. The initial investigation shows that deputies with the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office made contact with 30-year-old Jacob Faulstich Jr., who was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro, before Faulstich reportedly sped away and deputies initiated a pursuit. During the pursuit, the Camaro reportedly tried to overtake a 2022 Honda Pilot near Woodland Drive, hitting the front left of the Pilot, causing Faulstich to lose control, veer off the roadway, and hit a traffic signal pole. Troopers say Faulstich was unrestrained and received severe injuries, leading to him dying on scene. The driver of the Honda was restrained and uninjured. A toxicology sample was taken from Faulstich as part of the continuing investigation.
