Mariska Hargitay of 'Law & Order: SVU' finds out she was abandoned at her mother's accident site
During the filming of her new documentary "My Mom Jayne," actress Mariska Hargitay, known for her role in "Law & Order: SVU," made a surprising revelation about the 1967 car crash that took the life of her mother, Jayne Mansfield. In a conversation with her brother Zoltan, Hargitay learned that she had been inadvertently left behind at the scene of the accident, which also claimed the lives of Mansfield, her boyfriend Sam Brody, and driver Ronald B. Harrison. The harrowing event unfolded as the group was driving from Biloxi, Mississippi to New Orleans, where Mansfield was set to make a television appearance. The dense fog from an anti-mosquito spray truck obscured their vision, causing their car to collide with an 18-wheeler. While Mansfield, Brody, and Harrison tragically perished in the front seat, the children in the backseat sustained injuries. The experience of surviving such a traumatic incident is recounted in the documentary, premiered at the Tribeca Festival and set to release on HBO and HBO Max on June 27.
