Man with 114 previous arrests linked to deadly hit-and-run incident

In Salt Lake City, a man from Millcreek with a lengthy arrest history was charged for allegedly hitting a pedestrian while driving impaired and then fleeing the scene. Steven Ray Weathers, 61, faced charges in court for automobile homicide, theft, failing to stay at the accident scene, as well as misdemeanors for having an open container of alcohol in his vehicle and driving with a denied license. The incident occurred on May 2 when Paul Sagers III, 41, was struck by a Jeep with no headlights on while crossing a street. The Jeep fled the scene but was later found in a Trader Joe’s parking lot, where Weathers, still in the vehicle, was arrested. Police noted signs of alcohol intoxication in Weathers, including a strong smell of alcohol, urination, slurred speech, and unsteadiness.
