A 46-year-old man was taken into custody after crashing his car into a cement structure on the highway, resulting in serious injuries to his passenger. The incident occurred on Saturday night at the intersection of South Padre Island Drive and Airline Road. Responding to reports of a major traffic accident, police found a wrecked vehicle on the highway overpass with a critically injured 47-year-old female passenger inside. The Corpus Christi Fire Department was able to extricate the passenger, who was then rushed to a nearby hospital in serious condition. The driver, identified as Stephen Sims, was located a short distance from the crash site while trying to leave. Police noted he displayed signs of being under the influence. Sims was taken to a hospital for treatment following the severe crash. After being released, he was arrested and charged with Intoxication Assault with a vehicle that caused serious bodily harm.
