Man taken into custody following deadly accident in Hymera
The Sullivan County Sheriff's Office has apprehended a suspect in connection to a tragic accident in Hymera that resulted in the death of Decker House. The incident occurred at the intersection of Jackson and Oak Street on August 2, causing House to become trapped in his vehicle until rescue teams managed to free him and transport him to the hospital where he later succumbed to the injuries. Daylan Near of Jasonville was taken into custody on October 15 and faces charges of reckless homicide and criminal recklessness. His initial court hearing, set for October 24, has been canceled, with a final pretrial hearing scheduled for January 9, 2026.
