Man killed, woman critically injured in Hancock County motorcycle crash
HANCOCK COUNTY, Ind. — A man was killed and a woman was critically injured in a motorcycle crash in Hancock County on Sunday. According to a press release, Hancock County Sheriff's deputies were called to the intersection of U.S. Highway 40 and County Road 400 West around 5:13 p.m. to investigate a crash. When deputies arrived at the scene — which was located between Greenfield and Cumberland — they found a crash involving a 2004 Harley Davidson motorcycle and a 2025 Chevrolet Equinox. Police reported that the motorcycle's driver, 53-year-old Eric Edwards of Greenfield, was pronounced dead at the crash scene. A passenger on the motorcycle — a 52-year-old adult female — was transported from the scene to IU Methodist Hospital in critical condition after the crash. HCSO indicated that the motorcycle's female occupant is expected to survive the injuries she sustained in the crash. Deputies also reported that neither of the motorcycle's occupants were wearing helmets at the time of the crash. The driver of the SUV involved in the crash, who HCSO described as an 18-year-old woman, was not injured in the crash. The SUV's driver submitted to toxicology testing after the crash. Police have not yet released the results of those tests. After an investigation, deputies determined the SUV's driver was travelling south on County Road 400 West before the crash. The crash happened when the driver of the SUV turned left onto U.S. Highway 40 off of County Road 400 West. When the SUV's driver turned left, she pulled into the motorcycle's path. HCSO reported that the driver of the motorcycle struck the SUV after the SUV entered his path of travel. Deputies indicated that both of the motorcycle's occupants were ejected from the bike during the crash. HCSO also reported that the SUV's driver faced a stop sign at the intersection of County Road 400 West and U.S. Highway 40. The motorcyclists did not have a stop sign in their path. As of this article's publication, no additional information on the crash had been made available.
