Man from the area sentenced to 50 years for deadly crash caused by PCP
A man from Port Arthur, known for his past DUI offenses, has received a 50-year prison sentence for killing another man in a DUI accident involving a hallucinogen drug. Christopher Henry James admitted guilt for intoxicated manslaughter and was handed 50 years by Judge Raquel West for causing the 2022 death of James Addison. The judge highlighted that James had previously been convicted twice for DWI offenses. Due to his prior convictions, James could have faced a sentence ranging from 25 to 99 years had he not pleaded guilty. The fatal incident occurred on July 29, 2022, when James crashed his car into Addison's motorcycle while Addison was stopped at a red light on Gulfway Drive. Surveillance footage showed James reversing his car and driving over Addison again while attempting to flee. Blood tests revealed that James, aged 43, had PCP in his system when he caused Addison's death. James also had a history of drug-related convictions, including possession of PCP and aggravated robbery, as per the district attorney's office. Addison, 47, was a graduate of Stephen F. Austin High School and worked for the city's solid waste trash division. Prosecutor Luke Nichols noted the immense loss suffered by Addison's family and recognized that the 50-year sentence, although significant, could not replace their profound loss. Christopher James was still under parole for prior PCP convictions at the time of the fatal crash.
