A man from Severna Park found out his punishment on Tuesday after admitting fault in a deadly accident in Anne Arundel County. 63-year-old William John Sternhagen pleaded guilty to negligent manslaughter and reckless driving. The incident occurred on February 7, 2024, at 7:41 a.m. when multiple vehicles collided on Annapolis Road at Piedmont Lane in Hanover. Sadly, the driver of one of the vehicles, Joseph Richard Muniz, lost his life. Sternhagen, driving a Tesla, was found to be going 90 mph in a 40 mph zone at the time of the crash. Witnesses reported his aggressive driving behavior and speeding. Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney Anne Colt Leitess emphasized the dangerous disregard for others' safety shown by Sternhagen. He received a sentence of 10 years, with most of it suspended, and will have five years of supervised probation following his release.
