Man from New York apprehended for leaving the scene of deadly accident in the North Country

A man from St. Lawrence County, New York, was arrested by the State Police for leaving the scene of a fatal motorcycle crash. Herbert Planty, 44, of Canton, was taken into custody at a home in Potsdam by the St. Lawrence County Sheriff's Department. The incident involved a collision between a motorcycle driven by James McLean, 41, of Rensselaer Falls, and a pickup truck operated by Planty on Stiles Road. Tragically, McLean suffered severe injuries and later passed away at a nearby hospital. Planty initially stopped to check on McLean but then fled into the woods. He has been charged with a hit-and-run resulting in injury and death, as well as various traffic violations. Planty appeared in court and is being held at St. Lawrence County Jail on $20,000 bail.
