Man from New Hampshire faces charges in deadly dump truck collision

A resident of Newport, New Hampshire, has been taken into custody in connection with a fatal collision involving a dump truck last week. The Newport Police Department has formally charged 38-year-old Charles Deraway with negligent homicide and assault after he allegedly struck and caused the death of a pedestrian while driving the dump truck. Reports indicate that Deraway was traveling on Central Street in an easterly direction when he reportedly did not come to a complete stop at a stop sign, resulting in the collision that claimed the life of 34-year-old Zackary Shepard, who was walking in the crosswalk. Despite efforts to save him, Shepard succumbed to his injuries shortly after being transported to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. Deraway is scheduled to appear in court this Monday to address the allegations against him.
