
Man from Murrieta detained for DUI following running red light and causing fatal collision
A Murrieta man was taken into custody for suspected drunk driving following a collision where he allegedly ran a red light and struck another vehicle, leading to the death of one of its occupants. The incident occurred on Thursday around 5 p.m. near the California Oaks Road and Skyview Ridge intersection, as per the Murrieta police. A preliminary investigation revealed that Jaime Ruiz Jr., 39, was driving a pickup truck westbound on California Oaks when he disregarded a red light and collided with a sedan passing through the intersection. Both vehicles came to a halt after spinning. Ruiz, who reportedly had one of his children with him during the crash, was arrested after showing signs of intoxication. The female driver of the sedan, whose identity has not been disclosed, was pronounced dead after being transported to a nearby hospital. Ruiz faces charges including DUI vehicular manslaughter, DUI causing injuries, and child endangerment, and was released on bail the next day. His child, found unharmed, was placed in protective care.
