Man from Maine dies in accident as car flips into river, authorities report
A man from Maine tragically lost his life in a car accident in Whitefield when the vehicle he was driving ended up in a river. The victim, identified as Chris L. Conary, 67, of Alna, was involved in the crash at the intersection of Pittston and Townhouse roads around 11:50 a.m. on Thursday. According to the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, Conary was driving south in his 2006 Toyota Camry on Townhouse Road when he failed to stop at the intersection with Pittston Road. After hitting a snowbank, the car went airborne and collided with a parked vehicle, causing it to overturn into the nearby river. Despite efforts by firefighters, Conary could not be rescued from the vehicle and succumbed to the crash. He was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident and the airbag deployed. The Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death and investigate the possibility of a medical incident leading to the crash. Authorities urge witnesses to come forward and contact the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, with Deputy Jeffrey Rogers leading the investigation.
