Man from Kearns given 1-year sentence for leaving fatal accident site
A young man from Kearns has been given a one-year jail sentence for his involvement in a fatal three-car accident in West Valley City. Osvaldo Chavez Segovia, 21, faced charges including leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and not stopping at a serious injury accident, both third-degree felonies. He admitted guilt to these charges in his statement, acknowledging that he fled the scene on foot. In an agreement, the other charges were dismissed, and a separate case of misdemeanor assault was also dropped. Segovia received a 364-day sentence, with 96 days credited for time already served. The accident occurred on the Bacchus Highway, resulting in the tragic death of Madison Wagner, 25, from Tooele, with her boyfriend critically injured. The investigation revealed Segovia as the driver of a Chevrolet Silverado that collided with Wagner's Toyota after hitting another vehicle. Despite attempts by the drivers to leave the scene, they were apprehended with the help of a police K-9.
