
Man from Detroit area accused in accident killing two kids, harming one
A man from Canton, Michigan, has been accused in connection with a tragic accident in Detroit that resulted in the death of an 8-year-old and a 15-year-old and the injury of a 16-year-old. The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office stated that 41-year-old Amir Khalid was formally charged on Monday with two counts of reckless driving causing death and one count of reckless driving causing serious injury. Khalid was given a $250,000 bond with a GPS monitor, a curfew from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., and a prohibition on driving. The incident occurred around 12:39 a.m. on Aug. 23 at Gratiot Avenue and August Street, where Khalid allegedly collided with another vehicle while driving recklessly at a high speed. The young victims were taken to a hospital but unfortunately passed away, while a 16-year-old was injured. Khalid's next court dates are a probable cause conference on Sept. 4 and a preliminary exam on Sept. 11.
