Man found guilty of fatal crash denied limited driving rights

A man who caused a fatal impaired-driving crash in 2016 has been denied limited driving privileges in Warren, Ohio. Russell Lauer's request for permission to drive for work and medical appointments was rejected by Judge Cynthia Westcott Rice, despite his attorney's argument that Lauer has been rehabilitated. Lauer, who was granted early release from prison last year, expressed remorse for the accident that took the life of 27-year-old Brittany Szwedko. However, Szwedko's family opposed Lauer's request, emphasizing that their loved one will never return. Lauer had pleaded guilty to charges related to the crash and was previously sentenced to nine years in prison with a lifetime driver's license suspension. Judge Rice emphasized that driving is a privilege and cited concerns for public safety in her decision to deny Lauer's request.
