Man found dead in boat overdue from ‘fishing mishap'

A deceased man named John Smith was discovered in a vessel that had been reported missing near Hatteras Inlet on September 18. The Coast Guard Sector North Carolina was alerted by a Good Samaritan who found the missing boater and their boat. After the boater was rescued, it was determined that John Smith had passed away. Smith, described as a dedicated commercial fisherman, was originally from Stuart, Florida, and had been fishing from the Outer Banks to the Treasure Coast for many years. The incident is being referred to as a "commercial fishing accident," and the U.S. Coast Guard is currently investigating the cause of Smith's death.
