Man facing charges after hit-and-run involving Amish buggy injures 3 kids
Last Thursday evening in Bath County, a hit-and-run crash involving an Amish buggy resulted in injuries to three children, according to an arrest citation. Reports received by Kentucky State Police Post 8 indicated that a vehicle collided with the buggy on KY 11. Witnesses described the driver of the vehicle as swerving and passing on the right-hand shoulder. After the collision, the driver inspected the damage to his vehicle, then left the scene. The children were taken to UK Hospital by Bath County EMS for treatment, while the father was unharmed. The driver, identified as 21-year-old Ricardo Salas, was found at the registered location of the vehicle on Fogg Pike, where he displayed signs of impairment. The vehicle was later discovered in Sharpsburg, with a tarp covering the damage. Parts of the vehicle were found at the crash site, matching the damage seen. Salas was taken to St. Joseph Mt. Sterling Hospital, where he was found unresponsive in the back seat. In an interview with officers, Salas confessed to driving the vehicle, leaving it in Sharpsburg, and denying alcohol consumption at Fogg Pike. The citation lists multiple charges against Salas, who is now being held at the Montgomery County Detention Center.
