Man dead, driver arrested after two-vehicle crash in the intersection of Hampton Highway and Big Bethel Road in York County

YORK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) -- A Norfolk man was arrested after a fatal two-vehicle crash in the intersection of Hampton Highway and Big Bethel Road in York County Saturday evening, according to the York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office. On March 21 at around 11:29 p.m., deputies responded to the intersection of Hampton Highway and Big Bethel Road for a crash between a motorcycle and a car. The preliminary investigation indicated that the car hit the motorcyclist, who was a 26-year-old man from Hampton. He was pronounced deceased due to the crash. The car's driver, identified as a 19-year-old man from Norfolk, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence. As of around 8:05 a.m. on March 22, all of the east and west lanes on VA-134 near Big Bethel Road were closed, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation. There was a detour in the intersection of Owen Davis Boulevard and Big Bethel Road. At 4:48 a.m. on the same day, the office announced on Facebook that the intersection of Hampton Highway and Big Bethel Road was shutdown due to a crash. The office advised drivers to avoid the area. Additional charges are pending. This is an active and ongoing investigation.
