Man charged with reckless homicide after fatal crash in Racine chase

A man from Racine is facing charges of reckless homicide and other offenses following a police pursuit that resulted in a fatal crash last month. Adonis Martin, 36, has been charged with several felonies and a misdemeanor in connection with the incident, and his bond has been set at $1 million. The crash occurred on April 19 at the intersection of Lathrop and Victory, where Martin, fleeing from police, ran a stop sign and collided with another vehicle, causing the death of a 72-year-old man named Daniel Brown. Martin was apprehended at the scene and made statements expressing remorse for his actions. He claimed he made a significant mistake and acknowledged the grave consequences of his actions. Martin has a prior criminal record and was found to have an active Wisconsin Department of Corrections warrant at the time of the crash. He mentioned to law enforcement that he was facing personal struggles with his family, as well as with his probation officer. Additionally, Martin stated that he removed his GPS bracelet and mentioned feeling followed by gang members during the pursuit, explaining that he was unaware of the presence of police vehicles behind him.
