Man charged with DUI manslaughter after fatal Largo collision.
A man from Pinellas Park is facing a charge of DUI manslaughter after allegedly driving off the road and crashing into a tree, resulting in the death of his passenger. The incident occurred early Sunday morning when Arael Vaquero, 21, was driving a 2002 GMC Sierra in Largo. Vaquero reportedly lost control near Eicart Crossing on 58th Street North, hitting a brick wall and colliding head-on with a palm tree before striking another tree. The passenger, 18-year-old David Salazar-Castillo, was fatally injured in the crash. Vaquero, who was also injured, was found to have bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and a strong alcohol odor by an officer at a nearby hospital, where his blood-alcohol content was recorded at 0.237, significantly above the legal limit. Pinellas County Sheriff's Office announced that Vaquero would be taken into custody upon his release from medical care.
