Man charged in Temple inattentive driving fatal crash
TEMPLE, Texas (FOX 44) - A suspect in connection with a fatal accident involving a vehicle and two bicycles in Temple has surrendered himself to authorities. The Temple Police Department issued a warrant for 22-year-old Peyton Hoyt following an investigation by the Traffic Reconstruction Unit. Hoyt surrendered himself to the Killeen Police Department on the warrant for Use of Portable Wireless Communication Device for Electronic Messaging Causing Death. This comes after a traffic accident on Monday, February 9 left two individuals injured. Officers were originally dispatched to the 8800 block of Tarver Drive for the accident, which involved a vehicle and two individuals on bicycles. When officers arrived, they discovered the vehicle was traveling down the roadway when it struck the two individuals on the bicycles in the middle of the roadway. One individual riding a bicycle sustained minor injury, and the second riding a bicycle sustained life-threatening injury. Both people were transported to the hospital. Temple Police announced on Tuesday, February 10 that the 16‑year‑old victim who sustained life‑threatening injuries succumbed to those injuries.
