Man charged in St. Louis officer’s death to appear at plea hearing
A man accused of causing the death of a St. Louis police officer in a drunk driving accident on Interstate 70 is scheduled to appear in court on Monday and is expected to enter a guilty plea. Ramon A. Chavez-Rodriguez faces charges of DWI resulting in the death of Officer David Lee, who was killed while responding to a car crash in September of last year. Chavez-Rodriguez allegedly hit Officer Lee while he was on duty, and subsequent investigations revealed his blood alcohol content was above the legal limit. In addition to this, it was disclosed that Chavez-Rodriguez did not have legal status in the U.S. and was driving without a valid license. Prior to this incident, Chavez-Rodriguez had received a seven-year prison sentence for a domestic assault charge from 2020.
