Man charged in Nelson County DUI accident resulting in girlfriend's death

A man was taken into custody on Wednesday following a tragic incident in Nelson County where his girlfriend lost her life. The incident occurred at approximately 4:40 a.m. on June 22. According to the initial investigation conducted by the Kentucky State Police, Jason Wurts, 25, from Taylorsville, was driving the vehicle when he veered off the road, crashing into a tree and another unattended vehicle. Morgan Williamson, 27, the passenger in the car and Wurts' girlfriend, sustained fatal injuries and was later pronounced dead at Flaget Hospital. Wurts, also injured in the crash, was taken to the hospital for treatment. The arrest report indicated that he was driving while under the influence and was driving at a speed exceeding the limit by at least 26 mph at the time of the collision. Wurts is currently facing multiple charges including murder, driving under the influence, excessive speeding, wanton endangerment, and criminal mischief. His bail has been set at $500,000.
