Man arrested for causing fatal crash that killed 5 near Terrell, Texas after falling asleep, per DPS

A suspect has been taken into custody following a tragic accident that resulted in five fatalities and multiple injuries near Terrell. The Texas Department of Public Safety has confirmed that 27-year-old Alexis Osmani Gonzalez-Companioni has been arrested in connection with the incident. He is facing several charges, including five counts of manslaughter. The crash occurred on Saturday afternoon when Gonzalez-Companioni allegedly fell asleep at the wheel of his 18-wheeler, causing a chain reaction collision involving multiple vehicles. The Terrell Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene, describing it as "horrific" and declaring a "mass casualty" event. Emergency services worked tirelessly to assist the injured, while investigators are continuing to determine the circumstances leading to the crash. Unfortunately, four individuals in a Ford F-150 and one person in an SUV involved in the accident lost their lives. The fifth person from the Ford F-150 was airlifted to a hospital in critical condition. Names of the victims have not been disclosed publicly. The investigation is still ongoing, and Gonzalez-Companioni is currently being held in Kaufman County.
