Man arrested by TPD for Sunday's deadly car crash

Last Wednesday in Tucson, the Tucson Police Department apprehended the driver connected to a single-car accident that tragically ended in the death of a 24-year-old female passenger. The incident occurred early Sunday morning on West Roger Road. Following the crash, emergency responders attended to both the driver and the passenger. Unfortunately, Inez Marie Romero, the passenger, did not survive after being thrown from the vehicle. The driver, Timothy Ray Munoz, 26, was taken to Banner University Medical Center for assessment as detectives probed the site. According to TPD, reports from witnesses and road evidence suggest that Munoz was driving recklessly in his Tahoe, resulting in the loss of control, hitting a curb, crossing the road, and finally crashing into a block wall and a parked car in a yard. TPD reported that a DUI Unit officer on the scene determined that Munoz was impaired at the time of the accident. Subsequently, officers from the Operations Division West Community Response Team located and arrested Munoz at his residence on Wednesday. Munoz faces charges of 2nd Degree Murder and felony Criminal Damage and is currently in custody at the Pima County Jail on a $750,000 bond. Investigations into the situation are still ongoing.
