Man accused in fatal accident had been deported from U.S., VB officials state

A man accused of causing a fatal crash in August in Virginia Beach had been previously deported from the U.S., as reported by prosecutors. Erwin Marroquin-Herrera, 26, was charged with manslaughter and DUI after colliding head-on with Steven White II, resulting in White's death. Marroquin-Herrera was driving in the wrong lanes at the time of the crash, and confessed to consuming alcohol before the incident. During a bond hearing, it was disclosed that Marroquin-Herrera was an undocumented immigrant from Guatemala who had been deported before. He was found with fake identification at the time of his arrest. U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement have placed a detainer on Marroquin-Herrera, and more details about his deportation are being awaited from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
