Major Raleigh crash closes part of S. Saunders Street near I-40
RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) -- A major two-car crash late Saturday morning closed a key Raleigh road just south of downtown. The wreck, which destroyed one car, was reported around 10:50 a.m. in the 1800 block of S. Saunders Street, just north of Interstate 40, near the Red Roof Inn. The crash appeared to heavily damage the front-end of a red SUV while flipping a Honda that was left in pieces upside down in the road. There was no word about injuries or how the crash happened. Southbound S. Saunders Street, which is also U.S. 401, was closed near Penmarc Drive and Hubert Street, according to the NCDMV. Northbound traffic was also impacted by the crash.
