Maine woman, 20, dies of injuries suffered in Lewiston crash that killed her infant daughter

The Lewiston Police Department has confirmed to Maine's Total Coverage that a 20-year-old woman died of the injuries she suffered in a Lewiston crash that claimed the lives of her 7-month-old daughter and the baby's father.Adaysia Read, 20, died over the weekend, several days after the crash happened late Wednesday night in the area of 393 Grove St., according to police.Lewiston resident Sue Biron said she was awakened out of a sound sleep when a car crashed into a tree on her front lawn.Police said first responders found the driver of the car, 20-year-old Brunswick resident Tyrell Willigar, dead at the scene.Read and her infant daughter, Kinsley Willigar, were passengers in the 2016 Toyota Corolla involved in the crash. They were both transported to Central Maine Medical Center in critical condition, and they were later brought to Maine Medical Center in Portland.Police said they were told Thursday morning that Kinsley had died.Sage Cornish, a friend of Read's, brought a memorial cross to the scene of the crash on Friday."She was such a beautiful baby, and she did not deserve this fate. They did not deserve this," Cornish said.According to Cornish, Read was a survivor of domestic violence.Court records state Tyrell Willigar was charged with domestic violence aggravated assault in October 2024 after Read told police her boyfriend tried to strangle her. Willigar posted bail with the condition he have no contact with Read."To anyone who is dealing with abuse, domestic abuse, leave," Cornish said. "It's not worth it. You might love that person, but if they're putting their hands on you and are abusive - leave. That's all I can say."The Lewiston Police Department continues to investigate the cause of the crash, but investigators have said it appears speed was a contributing factor in the crash.
