Lynchburg teenager faces reckless driving charge following fatal crash in Amelia

A tragic accident occurred in Amelia County, Va., resulting in the death of a man. Virginia State Police reported that a 17-year-old from Lynchburg ran a stop sign and collided with another vehicle at the intersection of Five Forks and Military roads around 6:55 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 10. The impact caused the teenager's Chevrolet Silverado to flip multiple times. Unfortunately, 42-year-old Jamie Wayne Johnson, who was in a wheelchair and properly secured in the front passenger seat of the Silverado, lost his life in the crash. The teenage driver and a backseat passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were hospitalized. The driver of the other vehicle, a 2018 Honda Accord, 73-year-old Dorothy Love El, also suffered non-life-threatening injuries. All individuals involved were wearing seatbelts. The young driver has been charged with reckless driving, and the state police are investigating the incident. Detailed information beyond this report is not yet available.
