Loss of mother of 7 in Mountain Parkway crash devastates family

A tragic accident on the Mountain Parkway in Wolfe County resulted in the loss of a mother of seven and critical injuries to several others. Kentucky State Police stated that a minivan traveling eastbound on the Mountain Parkway veered across the center line and collided with a car carrying Katelyn Harmon, her fiancé Russell Sowers, and two of her children. Unfortunately, Harmon did not survive the collision. Her family shared that the other three occupants of their car are currently in critical condition. Harmon's sister, Kelly Green, expressed that Katelyn had a promising future ahead as she was looking forward to a new job, pursuing a nursing career, and had recently relocated to Kentucky to be closer to family. Regrettably, the incident occurred while Sowers was driving Harmon, her 9-year-old daughter Kaylen, and their 2-year-old daughter Gabriela, also known as "Suggie," to visit Harmon's mother. Kelly recalled the heartbreaking moment she was informed of her sister's passing by their mother and mentioned her profound loss, emphasizing the incredible person her sister was. All three survivors from their vehicle are still in critical condition, with Kaylen being treated at UK Children's Hospital after being taken off a ventilator. Kaylen, who had already suffered the loss of her father in a previous car accident, had a strong bond with her mother. The family clarified reports about Gabriela's injuries, underscoring that she has been hospitalized for several days following the accident. Harmon's family has set up a fundraising page to cover funeral expenses and support her children, highlighting her selfless and caring nature. Sowers, Harmon's fiancé, has shown signs of improvement but remains unresponsive, as relayed by the family.
