Los Angeles man, 26, killed in skiing accident near Lake Tahoe: report
A 26-year-old Los Angeles man died after a skiing accident on an advanced trail at Northstar California Resort near Lake Tahoe last week, officials confirmed to the Los Angeles Times. Nicholas Kenworthy was skiing Friday, Feb. 6, on the resort’s advanced Martis Trail when the incident occurred, the Times reported, citing the Sierra Sun. The reports indicate Northstar Ski Patrol responded Feb. 6 to a report of an injured skier on the advanced Martis Trail and provided initial care before transferring him to the Truckee Fire Department. He was reportedly pronounced dead before reaching a local hospital. The Times said the Placer County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Kenworthy’s identity, but that, as of Wednesday, officials had not released details about how the accident occurred or the specific injuries Kenworthy sustained. In a statement published by the Sierra Sun, Northstar Vice President and General Manager Tara Schoedinger said the resort and ski patrol extend their “deepest sympathy and support” to Kenworthy’s family and loved ones. Kenworthy’s death comes four years after another fatal incident near the resort, the L.A. Times noted. In January 2022, search teams located the body of 43-year-old Rory Angelotta north of Northstar after he was reported missing on Christmas Day 2021.
