Lodi man killed in Calaveras County crash, 2 others injured

A 24-year-old man from Lodi was killed following a crash in Calaveras County on Sunday night, the California Highway Patrol said. Officers responded to the crash around 7:10 p.m. on Highway 12 near Petross Avenue in Wallace. Officials said a Chevrolet was traveling westbound on Highway 12 at a high rate of speed when it drifted onto the gravel shoulder and then drifted back onto the roadway, crossing the double yellow lines and placing the vehicle in the path of an oncoming Ford. CHP said the passenger side of the Chevrolet collided with the front of the Ford and the Chevrolet overturned on top of the Ford, with both vehicles coming to rest on the gravel shoulder off of the highway. The driver of the Chevrolet died at the scene, CHP said.The driver and passenger in the Ford were taken to San Joaquin General Hospital with major injuries. Officials said DUI is suspected to be a factor in the crash.
