
Lodi crash claims driver's life during police pursuit
A 19-year-old in Lodi passed away on Friday night following a police pursuit that ended in a crash, according to Lodi Police. The incident began around 11:15 p.m. when an officer observed reckless driving near South Cherokee Lane and East Vine Street. Despite attempting to pull the driver over, they chose to evade the officer, ultimately leading to a crash on the southbound Highway 99 onramp at Cherokee Lane and Century Boulevard. The vehicle overturned, resulting in the driver's death at the scene. An investigation involving multiple agencies, as per the San Joaquin County Officer Incident Protocol, is ongoing, with the Lodi Police Department, San Joaquin County District Attorney's Office, DOJ, and the San Joaquin County Medical Examiner's Office collaborating. Furthermore, the California Highway Patrol is handling the crash investigation, while a passenger in the vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was hospitalized.
