Local woman wins $100K Mega Millions prize by accident on Friday the 13th
LAKEWOOD, Ohio (WJW) - Friday the 13th wasn't unlucky for one local woman who accidentally won a $100,000 Mega Millions prize last week. According to Ohio Lottery, the Sheffield Village woman planned to purchase a Powerball ticket from Cap & Corks on Detroit Avenue in Lakewood on Wednesday, March 11. When she got back home, the woman realized she accidentally bought a ticket for the Mega Millions drawing on Friday, March 13. Lottery officials said the woman was initially mad at herself for picking up the wrong ticket. The woman could not check her ticket during Friday's drawing after powerful winds sweeping across Northeast Ohio knocked out her internet, Ohio Lottery said. When she could finally check the numbers, the Sheffield Village woman realized she matched four of the white balls and the Mega Ball. With help from the 10X multiplier, she won $100,000. After mandatory federal and state taxes, the lucky winner will take home more than $73,000, Ohio Lottery said. She told lottery officials that she plans to give some of her prize money to her grandchildren, pay off her car and save the remaining winnings. The next Mega Millions drawing will be at 11 p.m. Tuesday night. Learn more about it right here.
