LMPD officer not charged in fatal crash without lights, sirens
LMPD Officer Alyssa Begel will not face charges in a fatal accident that occurred when she was not utilizing her emergency lights or sirens. A grand jury decided against indicting her with second-degree manslaughter due to insufficient evidence. The collision took place on April 2 at Fern Valley Road and Jeanine Drive, where Begel, while responding to an EMS call, collided with a vehicle driven by 61-year-old Charles Briscoe. LMPD has disclosed that Begel was exceeding the speed limit and not alerting other drivers of her approach. Begel remains on administrative leave as an internal investigation is ongoing. LMPD has extended its condolences to Briscoe's family during this difficult time.
