Lifeguard Impaled in Beach Horror by Freak Umbrella Accident

A lifeguard at Asbury Park's 3rd Avenue Beach had a terrifying experience when she was unexpectedly impaled by an umbrella. The incident occurred on a Wednesday morning, and first responders quickly arrived at the Jersey Shore to assist the young woman trapped by the beach umbrella. According to Asbury Park Fire Chief Kevin Keddy, the lifeguard was found with an umbrella stake piercing her left shoulder, extending about a foot out the back of her arm. Swift action was taken to cut off the umbrella stake to facilitate her transport to the hospital. Thankfully, despite the ordeal, the victim remained alert and conscious throughout. While her current condition is unknown, Keddy mentioned that she appeared to be coping well as she was taken for medical care. Keddy emphasized the importance of securely placing umbrella stakes in the sand to prevent such incidents. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has highlighted the increased occurrence of airborne beach umbrella accidents and recommended safety measures such as ensuring proper anchoring and being cautious of strong winds. Fox News Digital has contacted the Asbury Park Beach office for additional details but has not yet received a response.
