Letter carrier in Glendora retires after 40 years with a million safe miles

After completing an impressive four decades as a letter carrier in Glendora and driving a million miles without a single accident, John Bromstead is retiring from the Glendora U.S. Postal Service station. Bromstead is receiving the prestigious National Safety Council Million-Mile Award, which is an exclusive recognition for USPS employees who have driven over a million miles without any incidents. His achievement is likened to traveling from Earth to the moon and back more than four times. When asked about his success, Bromstead emphasized the importance of consistency, vigilance, and caring for the people on his route. His retirement was marked with appreciation from his Glendora post office colleagues, and he has been inducted into the elite million-mile award club for life. Cipriano Corona, USPS District Manager, commended Bromstead's accomplishment, highlighting how it exemplifies the commitment of postal workers to delivering their best daily while prioritizing safety and care for others. The Million-Mile Award is given to drivers who have accumulated one million miles or 30 years of driving without a preventable crash. USPS boasts one of the largest civilian vehicle fleets globally, with 246,503 vehicles that are driven by over 341,000 letter carriers and truck drivers. Annually, USPS vehicles cover more than 1.2 million miles to deliver to over 148.6 million residences and 12.8 million businesses nationwide.
