Legal action against VW for touch buttons in fatal crashes
Volkswagen is currently facing a new legal challenge regarding the use of capacitive touch controls on their vehicles. The lawsuit asserts that the touch-sensitive areas on the steering wheel are too easily triggered, posing safety risks for drivers. Acknowledging this issue, a VW executive admitted that the decision to use capacitive buttons was a mistake and has promised to reintroduce physical controls instead. For a while, the automotive industry pushed for cars to resemble smartphones, promoting a shift from analog to digital interfaces. However, the reception from consumers was not favorable. Volkswagen has now backtracked on their use of capacitive touch buttons in their latest generation models like the ID series of electric vehicles.
