Lebanon woman seriously injured in crash on Maine Turnpike in Kennebunk

A multivehicle crash on the Maine Turnpike that shut down part of the highway for two hours Monday morning left a woman in serious condition.Maine State Police troopers responded to the crash scene at Mile Marker 23 on Interstate 95 north in Kennebunk shortly before 8:50 a.m.Police said the crash involved a 2019 Nissan SUV, a 2022 Toyota SUV and a 2004 Freightliner tractor-trailer.According to investigators, the Nissan rear-ended the Toyota and then struck the tractor-trailer, which was legally stopped in the breakdown lane.The driver of the Nissan, 45-year-old Kelly Adams, of Lebanon, Maine, suffered significant injuries in the crash and she was transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland.Police said the driver of the Toyota was transported to Maine Medical Center for evaluation, and the driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured in the crash.All lanes on I-95 north were blocked as a result of the crash, and northbound traffic was diverted off at Exit 19 in Wells. The Kennebunk Fire-Rescue Department said all roads in town were "overloaded" as a result of the crash on the Maine Turnpike.Shortly before 11:20 a.m., officials said two lanes of traffic had reopened and only the right lane was blocked. Traffic was flowing through the area and no longer being diverted off Exit 19. The Maine Turnpike Authority lifted its crash alert shortly before 12:30 p.m.The crash remains under investigation. Police said no charges have been filed at this point, but the case will be reviewed by the York County District Attorney's Office.
