The family of Sherese Allen, a young woman who tragically lost her life after being hit by a vehicle on a Santa Monica beach, has filed a lawsuit for wrongful death against the city. The incident occurred on the night of Oct. 17, 2024, when 21-year-old Yuyang Sun, who was reportedly speeding and not paying attention, struck Sherese as she rested on the sand near Santa Monica Pier. Sun, who was initially arrested on suspicion of drunk driving and vehicular manslaughter, went missing after posting bail and may have fled to China. The family's attorney, Elise Sanguinetti, has pointed out the city's responsibility in the incident, asserting that they failed to implement the necessary safety measures to prevent such tragedies. This lawsuit aims to hold Santa Monica accountable and ensure the beach is a safer place for visitors in the future.
