Lawsuit filed by family of couple killed in Rainbow Bridge accident.

This week marks the second anniversary of the tragic passing of a beloved Grand Island couple at the Rainbow Bridge in Niagara Falls. Monica and Kurt Villani lost their lives in a car accident just before Thanksgiving in 2023, when their vehicle collided with a barrier, causing a significant explosion that garnered global attention. This incident led to the temporary closure of all four border crossings in the area. The Villani family has recently filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the car manufacturer, alleging that the Bentley they were driving malfunctioned, resulting in Kurt Villani's loss of control over the vehicle. According to the 33-page lawsuit, the 2022 Flying Spur Bentley allegedly experienced sudden acceleration as it approached the Rainbow Bridge inspection plaza. The legal team argues that the crash was not accidental but a result of negligence, attributing the failure to a malfunction in the car's electronic throttle control system. The lawsuit also references a series of recalls in Europe and Australia between 2018 and 2021 that reportedly affected the same model, suggesting a discrepancy in issuing similar recalls in the United States. While the Niagara Falls Police and Cincinnati Insurance have not provided any new details related to the crash investigation, the civil case involves Bentley Motors, Volkswagen, and multiple dealerships as defendants. It is essential to note that the claims made have not yet been substantiated in court, and Bentley has not responded to requests for comment.
