Lawsuit alleges GE hid engine flaws linked to deadly Naples plane crash
A legal action has been initiated against multiple aviation companies, including Bombardier Inc., the creator of the jet involved in the tragic incident that claimed the lives of two pilots in Naples in February 2024. The lawsuit alleges that a Hop-A-Jet aircraft faced severe engine failure and crashed while attempting an emergency landing on I-75. Although the passengers survived, pilots Edward Daniel Murphy and Ian Frederick Hofmann lost their lives. The legal complaint asserts that General Electric (GE), the manufacturer of the faulty engines, engaged in a cover-up. Court documents state that GE was aware of significant corrosion issues in CF34 engines but intentionally withheld this crucial information. Allegations in the lawsuit also include claims of evidence suppression, selective service bulletins, and insufficient maintenance protocols that failed to detect engine defects. The lawsuit cites previous instances of safety concerns involving GE Aerospace and demands safety reforms within the aviation industry. The legal action seeks to hold GE accountable by mandating safety communications to CF34 engine owners and implementing comprehensive corrosion inspection programs at the company's expense.
