Lafayette man charged with DWI in deadly pedestrian accident

A Lafayette man was charged with DWI following a tragic accident on Sunday. According to State Police, a man named Brad Madere from St. Martinville lost his life in the incident. The crash occurred just before 8 p.m. on La. 353, slightly north of Rookery Road. A driver named Troy Alfred was heading southbound on the highway when he struck Madere, who was walking along the highway near the fog line. Despite Alfred's attempts to avoid the pedestrian, Madere was hit and sadly passed away at the scene. Alfred, who was uninjured, allegedly provided a breath sample that indicated a blood alcohol level above the legal limit. He has been charged with first-offense DWI and obstructed view through windshield. Authorities also took a toxicology sample from Madere for further analysis. The investigation into this incident is still ongoing.
